Network guest.vse.cz

WiFi guest.vse.cz is operated on the premises of Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE), except for the dormitories and the building in Jindřichův Hradec.

The wireless network named guest.vse.cz is intended for visitors to the premises of Prague University of Economics and Business who need Internet access. Examples include:

  • Foreign guests of the university who are usually on short visits. If a foreign teacher is teaching, they should have an account in the study system (InSIS) and connect via eduroam.
  • Participants of paid courses and trainings.
  • External collaborators on projects in xPort.
  • Short-term visits by university staff. For example, a practitioner who comes for a single lecture.
  • Family members of employees during stays at the university’s recreational centers.
  • Participants of conferences and other events held on the university premises.

The wireless network guest.vse.cz:

  • Is not for students and employees of Prague University of Economics and Business (including contract and external roles). For them, the wireless network eduroam is intended.
  • Is not for hotel guests. For them, the wireless network hotel.vse.cz is intended. We do not broadcast the guest.vse.cz network in the dormitory areas.

How to obtain an account for the guest.vse.cz network:

One-day account for a visit:

Every employee of Prague University of Economics and Business is authorized to create a one-day account for a guest (e.g., an external lecturer). The validity of this account is always limited from the time the account is created until midnight of that day, and only one account can be created per day. If more accounts are needed for a given day, please use the options described below.

Accounts for conferences, events and occasions held at the university

If you are organizing (or arranging) a conference or other event at the university that requires connecting multiple users to the network, it is possible to request any number of accounts for the WiFi guest.vse.cz. The request can be submitted by any university employee, who will specify the validity period of these accounts.

Acceptable use

The use of the wireless network guest.vse.cz is subject to the Rector’s Order 1/2007. The following requirements for users arise from it:

  • The user must comply with international conventions binding on the Czech Republic and with applicable Czech legal regulations while using the network.
  • The user must ensure that their activity does not endanger the work of other users or overload network resources.
  • The user must observe basic rules of consideration and decency towards other users and system administrators.
  • The user is liable for damage caused by them, whether intentionally or through negligence.
  • The user must protect their access credentials (username, password). Granting access rights to another person is a violation of the rules.

 

Technical network limitations

  • IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are supported,
  • IPv4 address is assigned via DHCP,
  • IPv6 address is assigned via automatic configuration (router advertisement),
  • direct communication between individual connected devices is not allowed,
  • incoming traffic (traffic initiated from outside) is not allowed, i.e., if you run a web server on your laptop, it will not be accessible from the outside,
  • SMTP (outgoing mail from a client) is allowed only on ports using authentication and SSL/TLS encryption (usually port 465/tcp or 587/tcp),
  • use of Peer to Peer (P2P) networks for downloading/sharing content such as Bittorrent, DirectConnect or eDonkey is not permitted,
  • connection speed is limited to 8 Mb/s from external networks.

Network monitoring

Operation of all computer networks at Prague University of Economics and Business is monitored in accordance with Rector’s Order 1/2007.

These records are retained for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 1 year.

Access blocking

If the rules are violated, a user’s access to the guest.vse.cz network may be restricted (blocked) – see Rector’s Order 1/2007.

Occasionally a computer may spread unwanted traffic without the owner’s knowledge — this concerns various viruses and similar malware. In such cases the user’s access to the network will also be blocked, because they are not properly maintaining the device they use. Please take adequate care to secure your computer.
