Network hotel.vse.cz

The wireless network named hotel.vse.cz is operated in the dormitory premises of Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE). Access to this network may be obtained by all properly accommodated guests who are not students or employees of VŠE (for them the network eduroam is intended).

To connect to the hotel.vse.cz network, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the reception of your dormitory and ask them to generate access credentials. You will receive a slip (see image) with the access credentials consisting of a username and a password.
  2. Connect your device to the WiFi network hotel.vse.cz. You will be prompted to enter the credentials from step 1.
  3. After a successful connection you can use the Internet access.

Access to this network is included in the accommodation fee.

If you have problems with this network, you can contact us at osi@vse.cz. Please provide your name, the WiFi username (the one you received at the dormitory reception), the dormitory and room number, and as detailed a description of the problem as possible — especially error messages/screens.

Acceptable use

The use of the wireless network hotel.vse.cz is subject to Rector’s Order 1/2007, from which the following basic rules arise:

  • The user must comply with international conventions binding on the Czech Republic and with applicable Czech legal regulations while using the network.
  • The user must ensure that their activity does not endanger the work of other users or overload network resources.
  • The user must observe basic rules of consideration and decency towards other users and system administrators.
  • The user is liable for damage caused by them, whether intentionally or through negligence.
  • The user must protect their access credentials (username, password). Granting access rights to another person is a violation of the rules.

Technical network limitations

  • IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are supported,
  • IPv4 address is assigned via DHCP,
  • IPv6 address is assigned via automatic configuration (router advertisement),
  • direct communication between individual connected devices is not allowed,
  • incoming traffic (traffic initiated from outside) is not allowed, i.e., if you run a web server on your laptop, it will not be accessible from the outside,
  • SMTP (outgoing mail from a client) is allowed only on ports using authentication and TLS encryption (usually port 465/tcp or 587/tcp),
  • use of Peer to Peer (P2P) networks for downloading/sharing content such as Bittorrent, DirectConnect or eDonkey is not permitted,
  • connection speed is limited to 8 Mb/s from external networks.

Network monitoring

Operation of all computer networks at Prague University of Economics and Business is monitored in accordance with Rector’s Order 1/2007.

These records are retained for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 1 year.

Access blocking

If the rules are violated, a user’s access to the hotel.vse.cz network may be restricted (blocked) – see Rector’s Order 1/2007.
