Lecture by Petr Koubský: AI and Cybersecurity – An Old Story About a Shield and a Sword

In November 2025, Petr Koubský, science and technology editor at Deník N, gave a lecture at the University of Economics in Prague entitled “AI and Cybersecurity: An Old Story About a Shield and a Sword.”

In his presentation, Petr Koubský focused on the eternal rivalry between attackers and defenders in the digital world. He showed that artificial intelligence does not change this “story of the shield and the sword,” but significantly accelerates it – it brings faster implementation of new technologies, more security incidents, and at the same time widens the cost gap between attack and defense.

There were also warnings about the risks of false positives and false negatives in AI-based systems and a discussion on how experts from the field and academia can prepare for these trends.

The event was organized by the VŠE Center for Informatics as part of the CyberSmartVŠE initiative, which focuses on educating employees in the field of cybersecurity.
