How to Add Network Printer

1. Network Printing

Network printing is arranged at VŠE through so called print queues. The advantage is that once a print queue is created for a given printer, adding it to a specific station is very easy. Print queues are also very flexible; you can create several queues with different parameters for the same printer – e.g. separately for monochrome and color printing, or (if supported by the printer) separately for different types of printing protocols.

Admin rights are not required to install a network printer via the print queue.

Restrictions:

  • Network printers at VŠE cannot be connected to a network via a wireless network, but only with a data cable.
  • Print queues cannot be used for network scanning. Network scanning is always handled individually.

2. Installing the Print Queue under Windows 7

  1. To add a network printer, go to “Devices and Printers” in the “Start” menu
  2. In the “Devices and Printers” window, select “Add Printer”
  3. Select “Add Network Printer …”
  4. Select the printer you wish to install and continue with the “Next” button. The printer is now installed. If the printer you want does not appear in this list, select “The Requested Printer Is Not in the List” and continue with the next step.
  5. Select “Search for Printer …” and continue with “Next”
  6. A list of all network printers will open, select the one you wish to install on your computer and confirm with “OK”. You can filter the list for your search by starring the search term (for example, *SB22*).
  7. Installation usually takes no more than 30 seconds.
  8. In the final window, select whether you want to use the printer as the default printer. If the newly added printer is the only one (virtual printers are not counted), it will be set as default automatically. You can also send a test page to your printer from your computer to test it.

3. Installing the Print Queue under Windows 10

  1. RIGHT click on the “Start” menu and select “Settings” (alternatively: Win+R, enter “Control Printers” and continue with step 4.
  2. Next, click on the “Device” tile
  3. Select the “Devices and Printers” menu (Depending on the layout of the window, you will find a menu on either right or bottom side of the window)
  4. In the “Devices and Printers” window, select “Add Printer”
  5. Select the printer you wish to install and continue with the “Next” button. The printer is now installed. If the printer you want does not appear in this list, select “The Requested Printer Is Not in the List” and continue with the next step.
  6. Select “Search for Printer …” and continue with “Next”
  7. A list of all network printers will open, select the one you wish to install on your computer and confirm with “OK”. The list can be filtered for search by introducing the search term with an asterisk (e.g. *SB22*) to filter according to the room designation, department abbreviation or printer type.
  8. Installation usually takes less than 30 seconds (continue with Next)
  9. You can also send a test page to your printer from your computer to test it. Close the Add Printer Wizard through the Finish button
