Import and Export of Bookmarks
1. General Information
The following are instructions on how to back up and restore bookmarks in the most commonly used Internet browsers for the Windows platform. Due to frequent changes to the user interface, we also include keyboard shortcuts for individual actions where possible.
2. Google Chrome
- Open the menu in the top right menu, select “Bookmarks” -> “Bookmark Manager” (alternatively by pressing Ctrl+Shift+O).
- On the newly opened tab, click on the menu in the blue bar and select “Export Bookmarks”.
- Here just select where you want to save the HTML file with bookmarks.
- The procedure for importing bookmarks is almost identical (in the second step we just select “Import Bookmarks” and just go to our HTML file with bookmarks in the browser).
3. Mozilla Firefox
- To back up your bookmarks, use the “Bookmarks” -> “Show all bookmarks” menu (alternatively by Ctrl+Shift+B). If the menu bar is not displayed, it can be called up by pressing F10.
- In the newly opened “Page Library” window, click on “Import and Backup” and select “Export Bookmarks to HTML…” (make sure that the “All bookmarks” line is highlighted in the left menu).
- Here just select where you want to save the HTML file with bookmarks.
- The procedure for importing bookmarks is almost identical (in the second step, we just select “Import Bookmarks from HTML” and just go to our HTML file with bookmarks in the browser).
4. Opera
- In the left vertical menu click on the bookmark icon (alternatively via Ctrl+Shift+B).
- On the newly opened tab, click on the bottom menu and select “Export Bookmarks”.
- Here just select where you want to save the HTML file with bookmarks.
Opera – import bookmarks
- On the bookmark tab (alternatively via Ctrl+Shift+B), click on the bottom menu and select “Import Bookmarks”.
- In the drop-down menu Z: select the last menu „HTML Bookmark File“.
- In the final step, we will just go to our bookmark HTML file in the browser.
5. Microsoft Edge
- In the top right menu, click on the star icon (alternatively by Ctrl+I and here on the settings icon – gear icon).
- In the settings menu, click on “Import from Another Browser”.
- In the next menu, click on “Export to a File”.
- Here you just select where you wish to save the HTML file with bookmarks.
- The procedure for importing bookmarks is almost identical (in the third step, we just select “Import from a File” and just go to our HTML file with bookmarks in the browser).
6. Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Export – Press the F10 key to display the top menu, select “File” -> “Import and Export”.
- Export – Check “Export to a File” and click “Next”.
- Export – Check “Favorites” and select “Next”.
- Export – Leave the “Favorites” folder checked to export all bookmarks and continue via “Next”.
- Import – Here you just select where you wish to save the HTML file with bookmarks.
- Export – The bookmark export is now complete.
- Import – The procedure for importing bookmarks is almost identical (in the second step, we just select “Import from a File” and just go to our HTML file with bookmarks in the browser).
